Palmer Station personnel act as line handlers to tie up the research vessel Laurence M. Gould on Gamage Point on an early May morning. Torgersen Island is in the distance illuminated by the vessel's spotlight. For safety reasons they are required to wear life preservers or floatation coats, in this case made by Mustang Survival.
