Engineer Bob Zook, right, and graduate student Justin Burnett, both from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, test a remotely operated vehicle called Deep SCINI in an aquarium tank in McMurdo Station's Crary Lab. The robot was later deployed as part of the WISSARD project through a hole in the Ross Ice Shelf, where it discovered marine life about 740 meters below the ice -- the farthest south that fish and invertebrates have ever been found. See the WISSARD website for more information.
