Cargo workers at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station unload a pallet onto a sled. All supplies are brought from McMurdo Station to the South Pole on ski-equipped airplanes (LC-130) flown by the New York Air National Guard. The flight takes about 3 1/2 hours one way, covering a distance of about 800 miles.
