Alice Alpert processes samples in the Palmer Station laboratory. She is a member of the Palmer Long Term Ecological Research program. The Palmer LTER studies the marine ecosystem on the northwest side of the Antarctic Peninsula, which has undergone rapid climate changes since the 1950s. Research includes biology, particularly penguins and their prey, physical and chemical oceanography, and the role sea ice plays in the overall ecosystem.
