Palmer Station, Anvers Island, near the Antarctic Peninsula. Palmer is the smallest of the three U.S. Antarctic stations, with a population reaching 44 in the austral summer. Ship access is usually year-round, with personnel and supplies arriving from Punta Arenas, Chile.Wildlife at Palmer Station is abundant which makes it superbly located for biological studies of birds, seals, and other components of the marine ecosystem. The immediate vicinity is a dedicated Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) site.
