Kristin van Konynenburg holds up a flask used to collect air samples at Palmer Station. The air collected in these flasks will be sent back to Dr. Ralph F. Keeling's laboratory at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California, where his group studies changes in atmospheric oxygen, argon and carbon dioxide in relation to the carbon cycle and climate.
