The Research Vesssel NATHANIEL B. PALMER cruises the darkened waters of Marguerite Bay on the Antarctic Peninsula. Scientists on board during this cruise were studying krill and their interaction with the ocean dynamics and ecosystem. This photo was taken in May, which is late autumn in the southern hemisphere. There are few hours of sunlight at this time of year.
