The HMNZS Endeavor arrives in McMurdo Sound carrying Sir Edmund Hillary's expedition supplies, including this float plane, in this 1957 photo. The supplies included construction materials for the first New Zealand Scott Base, as well as supplies for the overland crossing to South Pole in which the Hillary team was to lay depot supplies for Vivian Fuchs' overland team, crossing the continent from the other direction.
