Discovery Hut as it appeared in 1956. British explorer Robert F. Scott's 1902 Discovery Hut, located at Hut Point Peninsula, Ross Island, was encased with snow when the U.S. Navy arrived in late 1955 as part of Operation Deep Freeze. Today, the hut is under the care of New Zealand's Antarctic Heritage Trust and is preserved as a historical site.
