Discovery Hut was built by British explorer Robert Falcon Scott's Discovery Expedition in 1902. This hut remains intact just outside McMurdo Station, Antarctica. It was used mainly to hold provisions and for other tasks but never occupied by Scott and his men. However, it became an important refuge for future expeditions. This hut and other historic sites are maintained under the auspices of New Zealand's Antarctic Heritage Trust. In the background the modern buildings of McMurdo Station can be seen.
