Martin Wolf, a member of the IceCube science team, greets the world with a dramatic backdrop of the autora australis and Milky Way over the South Pole. The building behind him is the IceCube laboratory, where cables connecting the neutrino detectors buried a kilometer under the ice are connected to computer servers. The South Pole Telescope can be seen in the far left distance. The other distant buildings include the the Marvin A. Pomerantz (MAPO) building and the South Pole Station.
