On December 31, 2023, the NASA Explorers Program, with support from the United States Antarctic Program (USAP), launched the Galactic / Extragalactic ULDB Spectroscopic Terahertz Observatory (GUSTO). The Long Duration Balloon (LDB) will study the full life cycle of the interstellar medium, the gas and dust from which all stars and planets are formed.
