The Ross Island Earth Station (RIES) installation team guides the placement of the 13.1-meter antenna reflector assembly onto the pedestal. The construction of this satellite communications dish represents a significant milestone in the jointly funded NSF Office of Polar Programs and NOAA Joint Polar Satellite System collaboration to modernize the McMurdo satellite communications infrastructure in anticipation of bandwidth enhancements in future years.
