The annual Race Around the World is held on Christmas day at the South Pole. U.S. Antarctic Program participants don fun costumes to run, walk or ski "around the world" in a matter of minutes.

All time zones converge at 90 degrees South. The South Pole maintains the same time zone as New Zealand, since that is the operational port of departure for personnel working at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station.
