Scientists Jonathan Toner, Lindsay Davidge and Ron Sletten dig a small sampling hole in the Wright Valley to take soil samples at different depths. Ron Sletten, University of Washington, and his team spent a season in Antarctica studying the pond, the valley around it and its outflow to understand the unusual chemistry in the lake.
