Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. The elevated station shown at left houses up to 150 people, a cafeteria, science laboratory and offices. The brown area on top of the station is where weather observations are taken by station meteorologists. The buildings behind the station are work centers for cargo and waste operations, among others.
