The McMurdo Dry Valleys were formally named in 1986, based on the common names used for this region of the Scott Coast, Victoria Land. Captain Scott first referred to them as the dry valleys in 1902. Visit the McMurdo Dry Valleys website to learn more about specially managed areas.
