Liesel Schernthanner worked as the South Pole Station communications supervisor during the 2011-2012 austral summer. People working in the communications 'nerve' center monitor all radio traffic, serve as the 911 emergency dispatchers, provide ground to air communications with airplanes and act as a general information center.
