Operation Highjump was aU.S. Navy operation that commenced August 1946 and ended inlate February 1947. Operation Highjump’s primary mission was to establish theAntarctic research base Little America IV and undertake a massive explorationof the continent that included 4,700 men, 13 ships, and 33 aircraft.
