Discovery Hut was built on Ross Island in 1902 by the British National Antarctic Expedition, also known as the Discovery Expedition. The hut was used as a storage warehouse by the crew who lived onboard their ship, the Discovery, harbored for two years in Winter Quarter's Bay.

Over the next dozen years it was a life saving refuge for future expeditions who sought shelter.
Discovery Hut is located at the tip of Hut Point Peninsula and is a short walk from McMurdo Station. It is maintained by the New Zealand Antarctic Heritage Trust.
