The Telepresence project, and the robotic capability, was selected as a pilot project for a new program jointly sponsored by NASA and the National Science Foundation, to use the Antarctic as an analog environment to help develop and 
test systems for use in future space exploration. This photo shows the robot being lowered into Lake Hoare, McMurdo Dry Valleys sometime between Oct. 22-Nov. 21 1992.
