Green netting helps protect an ice core that was extracted at the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) Divide field camp. Kendrick Taylor, Desert Research Institute, is the principal investigator on a project to drill an ice core more than three kilometers deep into the ice sheet. The ice serves as a sort of time capsule for past climate, allowing scientists to understand how abrupt changes in the climate unfolded tens of thousands of years ago. Visit the WAIS Divide project website for more information.
