Green netting helps protect an ice core that was extracted at the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) Divide field camp. Kendrick Taylor, Desert Research Institute, is the principal investigator on a project to drill an ice core more than three kilometers deep into the ice sheet. The ice serves as a sort of time capsule for past climate, allowing scientists to understand how abrupt changes in the climate unfolded tens of thousands of years ago.
