Brian Bencivengo, Assistant Curator of the National Ice Core Laboratory (NICL), holds a 1-meter long section of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) Divide Ice Core. All 3,331 meters of the WAIS Divide Ice Core are in 1-meter long sections and are stored in NICL's main archive freezer, which is held at a temperature of -36 degrees Celcius. NICL is located in Lakewood, Colorado.
