McMurdo Station is the largest of the three research stations operated by the U.S. Antarctic Program. The gray building in the center is the Science Support Center. The brown building to the left is a dormitory. The orange objects are shipping containers holding cargo. The communications microwave antenna pointed towards Black Island is in the lower center of the photo. The blue building in the lower right is the Berg Field Center (BFC). Ross Island is volcanic rock and in mid-summer, when this photo was taken, it is devoid of snow cover.
