A crowd gathers at Scott's Discovery Hut on November 2, 2002, near McMurdo Station, Antarctica, just as they did 100 years ago to cheer Robert Scott and his companions on their departure to attempt reaching the South Pole. From the hut, Scott, Ernest Shackleton and Edward WIlson crossed the sea ice and the Transantarctic Mountains to reach 80 degrees South, the most southern point any man had been at that date.
