Unoccupied Jamesways wait for summer occupants at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. Named for their inventor, Jamesways were developed as portable shelters and have been used in the U.S. Antarctic Program for decades. They have served as "summer camp" for the residents at the South Pole as the population outgrew accommodations. Once the new elevated station is completed, these shelters will no longer be used as dormitories.
