McMurdo Station is the largest of the three US stations in Antarctica with about 100 buildings. The brown buildings lined up toward the top of the photo are dormitories. The building with the red roof is the medical clinic. The brown building with vertical white stripes next to the clinic is the fire station. The large building just above the clinic (beige and gray) is called Building 155, which has the cafeteria, a small store, some dorm rooms and business offices. The gray t-shaped building in the center is the Science Support Center where small engine vehicles such as snowmobiles and PistenBullies are located. McMurdo sits on the edge of volcanic Ross Island.
