Bravo was the only dog along with 18 men who spent the first-ever winter at the South Pole in 1957 as part of the International Geophysical Year (IGY). Bravo was brought to the Pole by Jack Tuck, the wintering Naval Officer in Charge. Dogs are no longer allowed on the continent per the Antarctic Treaty.
