Aurora australis in the night sky at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. These buildings are in the Dark Sector, so-named due to the absence of light and radio wave pollution. In the foreground is the Martin A. Pomerantz Observatory (MAPO) building. Inside the ground shields are telescopes used to map the polarization structure of the cosmic microwave background. The main station can be seen in the distance on the left.
