An aerial view of Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station's elevated station. The station has berthing for 140 people to live in individual rooms. It also has a full gymnasium, cafeteria, science laboratory and offices. The brown rectangular area on top of the station is from where the meteorologists do visual observations.

Large steel arches, buried under the surface, provide shelter for additional facilities. Two of these arches can be seen to the upper right of the station. The power plant, the vehicle maintenance garage and cargo storage are located under these arches.
